Sthlm Blues Fest 2020:The Retreat
A warm WELCOME to Swedish Swing Society’s 11th annual Stockholm Blues Fest!
An extra long weekend of inspiring workshops with international blues teachers, late night blues parties, and plenty of time for connection on and off the dance floor! Over the Ascension Day long weekend, May 21 to 24 (Swedish: Kristi Himmelsfärd), we return for the fifth time to the beautiful Tvetagården hostel on the outskirts of Stockholm.
Forget about the outside world for a while, and dance into the night!
We are happy to present:
Anna Price & Ryan O'Shaughnessy, UK and
Dan Repsch, Canada/US
And some extra solo classes by our local Sweden based teachers
Eight hours of blues classes, plus at least two hours of complementary solo classes, spread between Thursday afternoon and Sunday.
This workshop is not suitable for beginners: participants must have previous blues dance experience. Read through the level descriptions and think about which level would best suit your development as a blues dancer. The level division will happen at the camp. There won’t be any auditions – we will trust your judgement and try to make sure everyone gets into their preferred level. In case of large imbalances between leads and follows in one of the groups we may have to move some of you to a different level.
You have taken at least some beginner classes and you’re comfortable with the basics of blues. You have some understanding of pulse, close embrace, and simpler moves like inner turns, outer turns and send-outs. You’re feeling inspired and would like to develop as a blues dancer.
You social dance regularly and have mastered the basics of blues. You are comfortable with various pulses, embraces and steps. You’re relaxed in your frame and connection and creative and adaptive to the music. Most likely you have attended national or international workshops and festivals.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, all nights with great live musicians, all with dancing until late!
An after party will take place on Sunday evening in Stockholm, which is not included in workshop price. More details for all evenings will be presented separately.
DATE AND TIME
Thursday 21th to Sunday 24th of May.
Check-in opens 1PM on Thursday, first class around 3PM.
Last camp activity ends approx 5PM on Sunday.
After party Sunday evening in Stockholm (not included in workshop price).
3300 SEK for (shared) hostel room accommodation
2300 SEK for campers, bringing their own tent
(If you arrange your own accommodation somewhere else, you still need to sign up and pay the camping option)
Classes, parties and meals are all included in the above price! Members of Swedish Swing Society receive a 200 SEK discount.
As previous years, these prices are based on all participants being ready to help out with some of the tasks needed to make the camp go around! Help us put the breakfast items on the tables, empty some wastebaskets or prepare the sauna for usage? And all are expected to take some part of the final clean-up. Experience has shown that by sharing the workload everyone will have plenty of time to both enjoy the dancing and relax!
But please note that we are also looking for volunteers – if you are interested, please check the info on https://fest.stockholmblues.com/volunteers/
Full payment must be received 2 weeks after acceptance, otherwise you risk losing your place at the camp.
Cancellations before 30 April will receive a full refund minus 200 kr processing fee. Important, please note that cancellation requests are done to firstname.lastname@example.org
Cancellations after 30 April will receive no refund. You may however transfer your ticket to someone else with the same dance role (leader or follower).
The hostel rooms have between 3 and 6 beds. There will be an online spreadsheet for camp participants to organize room sharing. We highly recommend that you bring your own bed sheets, but if you want to hire bed linen at an extra cost, we will provide details about how to pay for this option closer to the event, as it is arranged directly with the hostel.
Campers have a separate shower/toilet facility accessible all night.
Dinner Thursday; breakfast, lunch and dinner Friday and Saturday; breakfast and lunch Sunday included! Always with some vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Please tell us about allergies at email@example.com, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs!
