Afro Moves + Food tasting workshop
At our Afro Moves + Food tasting workshop, we will give you classes in dance styles from Africa and let you enjoy some food from the Uppsala-based African restaurant Messob. Two separate dance classes will be held; afrobeats, and mapouka/twerk.
Afrobeats is a dance style from West Africa, with different sub-genres from different African countries. Its popularity has grown in the recent years, and today afrobeats is danced all over the world.
Mapouka has its origins in the Ivory Coast, where women dance by moving their hips to traditional music. When people were forced to the Caribbean and America, the dance style developed into what is now known as Twerk.
Messob is an award winning restaurant in the centre of Uppsala. They serve a great variety of east african food, with a good knowledge of vegan dishes.
